Good example of a about 6-year-old skeleton. Age of the skeleton was determined by comparison with a normal bone specimen, showing at this stage of development the unfused epiphyses of the long bones and the cartilaginous margins of many bones. All the deciduous (baby) teeth are in the upper and lower jaws. All the anterior, posterior, sphenoidal, and mastoidal fontanelles are closed. The spheno-occipital synchondrosis and the cranial sutures are open. Neurocentral fusion in the vertebrae has begun post-cranially in most cases. The entire proximal epiphysis is present on the humerus. Fusion of the ischiopubic rami is visible. The greater trochanter of the femur is recognizable, and the medial malleolus of the tibia has started to ossify. This skeleton is a good example of child development and a model of teaching in the laboratory.

All bones disarticulated. The left hand articulated, rigid. The left foot articulated rigidly.
